A fatal love

She smiled as she remembered
Her first real love affair
The magic of their meeting
And fullness of their care.

The days were filled with happiness
Each meet a joyous thing
Their hearts and minds were welded
Completeness they did bring.

Then came the dreaded tragic news
Their love could no longer be
His time had come to travel
Three thousand miles of sea.

Her days were numb and lifeless
Her soul a constant ache
Life had no further meaning
She thought her heart would break.

Then one day a miracle!
The news she longed to hear
Her love was coming home again
And the hour was rushing near.

Arranged to meet where first had met
Sweet meadow where they did lay
A year had passed since they'd first loved
She could now relive that day.

Saw him at last come into view
Once more to fill her life
But he had brought another
And introduced his wife!.

Her face drained white with sobbing grief
But made no other sound
Her broken heart could take no more
She fell dead upon the ground.
